Katrina’s hair is always messy and her heart is always open! She has a background in biological sciences and education and her E-RYT 500. She studied with and works alongside Brett Larkin and Guru Singh at Uplifted™ Yoga and Kundalini University. Katrina owns a physical studio, Shine Yoga Garage, in the heart of the midwest cornfields of Illinois and is opening a second in her hometown. She teaches practitioners through her local and global online studio and enjoys leading hundreds of students a year into stepping into their personal teaching power as a lead yoga teacher trainer. She is especially passionate about trauma-informed yoga and yoga for youth and leads those components of the teacher trainings.
Always keep your head up and heart open is Katrina’s motto. She has survived an eating disorder, a school shooting, and an abusive marriage. She used yoga to take her power back and find her voice and continues to use it as an anchor to manage the resulting anxiety, PTSD, and digestive disorders from the trauma she has experienced. Kundalini Yoga has been instrumental in her own healing and navigation of her mind and she is passionate about taking the intimidation out of the practice and sharing it in a trauma-informed way with kids and adults.
Katrina deeply understands that sometimes there is so much to heal that we don’t know where to start. She loves to use the chakras and astrology as a map for both herself and what she offers to the collective. She especially loves to work with the cycles of the moon and our bodies encouraging students to honor themselves through the cycles and seasons of life. She curates embodied yoga and reflection moon workbooks and circles to align with the lunar energy.
Katrina is a Taurus sun, Pisces moon, and Sagittarius rising. Her warm earthy energy and calming voice combined with her love of learning and ability to deeply empathize make her a powerhouse healer. However, she would much rather you consider yourself to be your own healer as she simply guides and suggests. Striving to turn her trauma into her dharma, she makes all of her offerings safe and compassionate. You can truly feel how genuinely Katrina cares about each individual and you can witness her shift gears to meet students where they are as she teaches both classes and yoga teacher trainings.
Katrina considers yoga to be an anchor in her life and loves to share “anchor tools” to help students return home to their own bodies and their hearts. Her favorite anchor tools are mudras. She believes it’s always helpful to do something with your hands, especially when it helps direct energy and intention!
Katrina teaches meditation, mudra, journaling, hatha, vinyasa, yin, restorative, yoga nidra, kids, trapeze, and kundalini classes. All of her classes are trauma-mindful, alignment-based, fun, and empowering. She might occasionally speak to the grown-ups in kids yoga language and tell you to be a snake or a dog, but that’s just all part of the fun! She would love nothing more than to help you remember your power, your voice, and your body’s wisdom as you move, meditate, breathe and heal with her!
An educator and social emotional informed instructor with a heart of pure gold who perfectly paces so you can actually breathe and be rather than just do.

A mama bear, woodland fairy tree hugger, and queen of accessible yoga and tenaciously living adventurously despite physical setbacks.
Chelsea first started practicing yoga during a time when her mind and body felt out of harmony. She turned to yoga and a more holistic lifestyle to help find more balance, direction, and peace within herself. Yoga has not only brought her increased physical wellness, but has also given her a reminder to slow down, more space for stillness, and a reconnection with her intuition.
Chelsea has her RYT 200 in alignment based hatha/vinyasa from Breathe for Change. She is also a certified social emotional learning facilitator and has her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Chelsea spends most of her days in her classroom with her littles teaching preschool in the Illinois Valley area. She enjoys the time she spends outside of her classroom teaching yoga to both kids and adults, practicing yoga, exploring new places, and spending time with her family and friends.
With a grateful and compassionate heart, Chelsea enjoys offering yoga that is accessible to everybody in a space where everyone is supported and welcomed. She is passionate about bringing social/emotional awareness and yoga to both kids and adults. Chelsea’s teaching is rooted in a deep understanding of social/emotional well being. She offers hatha, vinyasa, slow flow, yin, meditation, mindfulness, empowerment, and kids classes. Chelsea makes each of her classes a quest to guide students of all ages to find joy and ease in body, mind and heart.

An incurable traveler, hiker, adventurer, and gardener, Andrea guides those with injuries and chronic health conditions to live life to the fullest through the practices of yoga and spending time with nature. Without yoga as an anchor of her daily life, she would not be able to do the outdoor activities that she loves so much.
Through yoga, she has transformed herself physically and emotionally after undergoing 17 orthopedic surgeries over the course of 2+ decades. She believes in functional movement, especially in our modern tech-driven society. One of the best ways to naturally move our bodies, the way they are designed to move, is by spending time outdoors. One of her main focuses is on the common threads between yoga and connection to Nature. She shares these ideas by leading in-person and virtual Mindful Outdoor Experiences.
Andrea is an ERYT-500 and YACEP yoga teacher offering weekly yoga classes at 2 YMCAs as well as private yoga instruction. She has also completed certifications in Accessible Yoga, Yin Yoga, and TRX Yoga. She is a Certified Mindful Outdoor Guide through the Kripalu School of Mindful Outdoor Leadership, as well as an ACE Certified Health Coach, helping people make positive lifestyle changes.
She invites you to hike and travel virtually with her at www.BluesBoots.com. More information about Mindful Outdoor Experiences can be found on this website. A list of Andrea’s recommended movement and nature-related readings and resources can be found here as well. She is the author of A Year of Mindfulness With Nature: 52 weeks of Mindfulness Ideas and Journal Prompts Inspired by Nature.
We would love nothing more than to share our passion for this practice with you or your children! Join us at the she shed or virtually at one of our kids, teens or adult classes or events. Or reach out to connect privately through yoga, trapeze, meditation, mentoring or energy work!
Katrina dreamed of a safe and welcoming space for all the things and people she loves, and Shine Yoga Garage was born. Her giant she-shed is where she details cars in the front and yogas in the back. It has a hammock in a car lift, toolboxes full of props, and yoga trapezes too! When Illinois weather is kind she opens the big garage door overlooking the field and lets the sun shine in on our practice. It really is her happy place and she hopes it is yours too, even if you are joining virtually!
So join us virtually or come check out the she-shed in the heart of the midwest farmland!
We are literally just off of I80 and Route 251 and close to I39 and Staved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks.
Check our schedule for the most up to date information on in person classes at Shine Yoga Garage and virtual class options. Or schedule a private session with us here!
Most of our classes are hybrid, with in person and virtual options. Classes are also recorded and available in the content library for monthly tribe members. Check out memberships options here.
Our offerings are not a substitute for therapy or counseling. Our offerings are tools to support whatever journey you are on. Your journey might include other modalities. Katrina knows from her own lived experience that a top-down appraoch (mental, intellectual, talk-based) does work, but not on its own.
Therapy is a non-negotiable for Katrina. But so is a daily bottom-up approach (somatic, embodied, movement-based). You need to work with the library of stories and emotions your body is holding for you in conjunction with reflecting on and talking about them.
Katrina emphatically believes that it is when you combine bottom-up (yoga, mudras, movement practices) and top-down (counseling, talk-therapy, etc.) to meet in the middle at the heart that is when true healing happens.
Our team encourages you to practice our offerings and to layer in whatever tools help you stay heart-centered with them.
Please reach out to us at the bottom of this page if you cannot find an answer to your question here.
We are an inclusive, trauma-informed local and global studio. We don't speak in levels! Everyone begins again and again. We believe every time you come onto the mat you are a beginner in the present moment with the current needs of your body, mind, heart, and spirit.
Katrina is an educator at heart and has taught yoga to students from the ages of 2 to 92. She also teaches yoga teachers to be yoga teachers. She is empathic, intuitive and skilled at teaching to her students and does that in each and every class. She offers detailed alignment cues to ensure her students are practicing safely, encouragement to let props elevate your practice, and a lot of space for customizing your own experience. She incorporates intutitive movement, stillness, and choice into every experience. Her goal is to empower all regardless of how they are moving or not moving.
We are confident you will feel comfortable and supported in any of our classes. Having said that, if you are concerned because you are "beginner" we recomend trying an evening class first as they tend to be a bit slower paced. Check out Mudra Monday Slow Flow, Wednesday Evening Vinyasa, or Thursday Yin + Meditation.
We are a local and global studio and welcome students into our classes from all over the world! All classes on our schedule are listed in Central Standard time. Each offering clearly states if it is a studio or virtual class so you can register for how you plan to join us.
If you want to practice with us in person, our physical studio, Shine Yoga Garage, is located in the middle of the midwest cornfields outside of LaSalle, Illinois. We are in the heart of the country, but conveniently just off of I80 and Route 251 and close to I39 and Staved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks. Check out the map above. It's really the best of both worlds!
NO! We offer many studio classes every week! Just as we have students all over the world, we have instructors all over too, so some classes are virtual only. Katrina also enjoys teaching from home and her travels. Almost all of our classes have a virtual option. The schedule will cleartly indicate the location of a class, so you can choose how you want to practice. It will either say Studio or Shine Yoga Garage so register for that if you plan to come to the studio or it will say virtual or Your Home so choose that one if you are joining from somewhere else. If you only see the virtual option there is no in person option for that offering.
We want to support you in practicing! This means finding a practice and studio that aligns with your wants and needs. Our membership offers a one week trial! We encourage you to sign up and committ to yourself to check out all of our offerings to see what aligns for you.
While most of our students join our membership, we deeply understand that memberships are not what everyone is looking for. We also offer walk in tickets. Each class has a walk in option so you can purchase a ticket when you register.
You can also choose to purchase a drop in to try one class first to see if our community is a fit for you. If you decide to set up a membership after that we are happy to refund your drop in ticket once you set up your membership. Our memberhsip includes our content library of recorded classes so you can practice even when you can't be with us LIVE!
Kundalini Yoga is a conductor of energy and healing. It is a potent practice that combines breath, movement, mantra, and mudra in a scientific and artistic way. It is designed to take us to the very edge of our comfort zones physically, mentally, and energetically. YOU choose what to do there; push through or back off. Both options are valued and celebrated in our classes and the ability to practice and choose helps all aspects of our being.
Katrina uses the often more familiar vinyasa yoga as a way to transition between kundalini exercises to help take some of the intimidate out of the practice and keep you practicing mindfully and safely. You are guided through kundalini warms ups, postures and movements and encouraged to try on specific ways of breathing with each one. Mantras and their explanations are offered and we always close with a meditation and final resting.
Kundalini has been instrumental in helping me navigate my own mind and symptoms of PTSD and anxiety from trauma. I love sharing it in a trauma informed way that feels familiar and new at the same time. I want to let it give you a chance to come home to your body and soul.
